Class 2 Rooflight, Impact Test
One of our ongoing projects Lakeside House includes Schüco FWS 60 rooflights which must meet Class 2 for safety and fragility of overhead glazing. For that reason we constructed a test rig which we then tested in accordance with TN 66 and TN 67 where the rooflight is assessed in 3 ways:
- Soft body impact test – Where a 300mm cylindrical sand bag weighing 45kg is dropped from a height of 1200mm.
- Hard body impact test – A 100mm diameter steel ball weighing 4.11kg is dropped from a height of 1200mm.
- Static load test – For this test the glass must be broken if not already, then a static load of 180kg is placed on the test rig for 30 minutes.
